Through this series, I created a new art aesthetic.

First, I paint on Hanji with black ink, oriental water colour, acrylic, and various pigments. I employ the ideas of contrast in colours, lines and shapes. This stage represents a continuation of tradition and order.

​

The second stage is the dissolution of tradition. I cut the painting into various pieces of rectangles or other shapes. This process represents breaking from traditions, and tackling the challenges of our fast changing modern world.

​

The final stage is the recreation of what was dissolved. The cut pieces are rearranged onto a new canvas – a new painting is created.

​

The original meaning, is replaced by a new form of aesthetic language. After the dissolution and recreation process, what remains with me is the new painting, as well as personal reflection and meditation. The new painting symbolizes a new life and meanings and through this, I hope to encourage others that we all have second chances.

< 묵상 (默想) >

묵상을 통한 끊임없는 의문과 해답은 본인 작품에 주된 조형행위로서 화면과 연결시켰다.

​

작품 ‘심연(深淵)’에서 보여 주었던 것처럼, 한지 위에 먹, 동양화 물감, 분채, 아크릴과 착색 재료 등을 사용하여, 규칙 또는 불규칙적인 행위의 흔적들을 바탕에 두고 전개되는 다양한 선과 강렬한 색채의 대비와 함께 다채로운 형식 요소들의 변용으로 화면을 채웠다. 이는 전통에 대한 수용과 사상에 대한 질서를 나타내고자 함이다.

그러나 다시 작게 잘라 해체시킨다. 빠르게 변화하는 현대 사회의 단면과 전통에 대한 거부의 작은 항변으로 잘려진 작은 화면은 또 다른 화면으로 의미가 부여되어 나타난다.

 

각각의 작은 화면을 재 조합하여 새로운 화면으로 재 탄생시킨다.

묵상을 통해 깨달음이 무엇인지를 알아내듯 그려진 그림을 다시 잘라 새로운 화면을 찾아낸다. 이는 ‘심연’에서 얻은 감흥에서 벗어나 관념에서 탈피하는 변화를 요구하는 심적 변화가 강하게 표출되기 시작함이었다.

화면의 원래의 의미는 완전히 사라지고 의도하지 않은 새로운 형상 언어로 표현된다. 이러한 행위는 틀에 박힌 사각의 화면에서 따라오는 정해진 의미에서 벗어나고자 함이며, 기대하지 않았던 새로운 화면 구성으로 새 생명을 얻게 함이다.

이를 통해 새로운 삶과 의미를 상징하며, 주어진 삶에 있어 두 번째 기회를 갖고자 함이다.
