Just like having hopes and dreams, experiencing and acknowledging uncertainty, hardships and loneliness in our society is equally imperative in creating a purposeful and driven life that extends into eternity. It is with this understanding that I have crafted a new artistic aesthetic in this artwork series, breathing life into my vision for an eternal life.

First, on Hanji paper (traditional Korean handmade paper), I used ink, oriental paint, coloured powder, acrylic, and other colourants to create a variety of elements with a contrast of lines and colours. This process represents the acceptance of tradition and the order of thoughts.

Next, I cut the coloured Hanji paper into elongated pieces and deconstructed them, forming a new visual presentation. This intricate process signifies a rejection of the rapidly-changing modern society, which becomes newly born into a society that embodies eternity.

Lastly, the deconstructed pieces are woven together and pasted onto a canvas. The original meaning of the work completely disappears and becomes reborn into a new visual composition. This process represents the importance of communication and creating new relationships which leads to new and unexpected meanings to life. The weaves symbolize continuity and having no ends, expressing the eternal world that we cannot see with our own eyes.

The deconstruction of the painted art and recollection of the individual pieces created an exciting and new visual form. I want to emphasize that this artwork is not a simple creation or appearance of an object; but each step of creating the artwork holds expressive and unique meanings, ultimately leading to the aspiration of living an eternal life.

< 영원의 세계 (Eternity) >

희망과 꿈을 가지고 사는 것이 행복한 삶을 향한 성취의 열쇠인 것처럼, 불확실성의 시대와 공허함의 투쟁 속에서 필요한 것은 영원한 것을 추구하는 것이다. 그러므로 보이지 않는 세계, 즉 영원의 세계가 있다는 것을 믿는 것은 목적이 있고 의욕적인 삶을 사는 데 필수불가변이다.

이 영원의 세계를 가시화하기 위해 나의 작업에서 새로운 예술 미학에 접근했다.

먼저, 한지(한국 전통 수제 종이)에 먹, 동양화 물감, 분채, 아크릴과 착색제 등을 사용하여 규칙, 또는 불규칙적인 행위의 흔적들을 바탕에 두고 전개되는 다양한 선과 강렬한 색채의 대비와 함께 다채로운 형식 요소들의 변용으로 화면을 채웠다. 이는 전통에 대한 수용과 사상에 대한 질서를 나타내고자 함이다.

다음으로 그려진 한지를 선 모양으로 길게 잘라 해체시킨다. 빠르게 변화하는 현대 사회의 단면과 전통에 대한 거부의 작은 항변으로 잘려진 작은 화면은 또 다른 화면으로 새로운 의미가 부여된다. 새롭게 태어난 조각들은 새로운 시각을 창조하는 역할을 하며 영원함의 새로운 의미를 구현한다.

마지막으로 이 조각들을 엮어 캔버스에 붙여 넣는다. 각각의 작은 화면을 재 조합하여 새로운 화면으로 재 탄생시킨다. 화면의 원래의 의미는 완전히 사라지고 의도하지 않은 새로운 형상 언어로 표현된다. 이러한 행위는 기대하지 않았던 새로운 화면 구성으로 새 생명을 얻고, 우리의 삶에서 소통과 새로운 관계의 중요성을 나타내며, 연속적으로 이어지는 작품들은 보이지 않는 세계의 영원함을 표현한다.

재 조합된 작은 화면들과 함께 다시 흩뿌려지고 흘러내리는 물감의 흔적들을 통해 새로운 긴장감이 넘치는 화면으로 재 탄생시킨다. 이러한 방법을 통하여 단순히 오브제의 의미나 외형을 재현하는 창작물이 아니고 기존의 이미지를 새로운 시각적 형태로 재 조합하는 과정에서 발견되는 표현적이고 독특한 의미의 결과로서, 다양한 회화의 표현양식으로 새로운 화면의 이면에 존재하는 본질을 종합적 시각으로 보여 주고자 함이다.
